Greek Revival was the dominant style of American residential architecture in the mid-1800's. It was so prevalent throughout the country that it became known as the National Style. It gained popularity again in the 1920's, and has had a resurgence today. This residence is an original Phillips Park house designed by Jones Boer Architects encompassing more than 6,500 finished square feet. It features elements in keeping with this Greek Revival tradition including a tall front-facing gable with a lower wing to the side, white clapboard siding and cedar shingle roof. Two-story corner pilasters rise up to meet a wide band below the eave-line, a theme that is repeated at the front entry. This house features large double-hung windows, both grouped together in bays and spanning entire walls. The result is a sunny interior with an open feel. The interior fit-out is also true to the style, with formal fireplaces in both the living room and family room, and an open stair reaching from the basement level to the third floor. The kitchen boasts custom milled cabinetry and chef's-grade appliances with a hand-made, French Design La Cornue range as its centerpiece. There is a family room off the kitchen with French doors leading to the read deck and overlooking the rear yard. The top two floors boast five bedrooms, four baths and a study with walls of windows. Some modern amenities found in this home include an elevator to three levels, two-car garage, generously proportioned rooms with high ceilings, and ample storage.
